So after last week's emergency filling (whee!) I had a dental checkup and cleaning today.

No cavities. Whoo!

But I do have some gum inflamation. Caused by not having regular checkups. So I need to have a deep cleaning done next Thursday (gums numbed and real deep cleaning done). Apparently this isn't too unusual and happens when regular cleaning and descaling isn't done. *sigh*

And my front lower tooth (which had a root canal done when I was 15 and a new cap placed on it 4 years ago) has been very badly done apparently. In the X ray we can see that the root canal job wasn't properly filled; merely a plug put in at the base. This has allowed an infection into the bone which has grown quite large and is threatening to reach the roots of the adjacent teeth. So I need to have the bad tooth ripped out and an implant put in and then a cap placed on that.

So Friday 19th will involve having the tooth ripped out and a temporary plastic "flipper" placed there (for cosmetic reasons); it gets taken out each night. This should allow the bone to heal and regenerate. Hopefully. 6 weeks after that a metal implant will be embedded into the bone. 6 weeks after that a cap can be placed onto the post.

Cost:
$300 for flipper
$1500 for extraction
$1500 for cap

And none of that is covered by insurance 'cos it's considered "cosmetic". WTF? Bastards.

What I want to know is why the dentist I saw 5 years ago (when I had lots of fillings) didn't pick up on this? Fuckers.

I hate my body. There's not a single part of it that works properly. Eyes, ears, nose, knees, ankles, stomach, arse, cock... and now my fucking teeth. They all have problems. This is pissing me off big time.

Gah!
