Disk space
May. 6th, 2007 04:38 pmFinally got the replacement disk from NewEgg. Not overly impressed with the returns service. It works, but it's very slow (UPS ground for all shipping). Good thing this wasn't essential for my plans.
Anyway, I now have 4*500Gb SATA disks in a RAID5 array. For testing purposes I've then thrown that into LVM because I'm not totally sure how I'm going to use it. Maybe just to rip my DVDs so I can build a media center...
Anyway,
This volume is far too large to backup, but I expect it just to contain copies of physical media I've got, so RAID-5 should be sufficient protection against data loss (mostly just a case of not wasting my time re-ripping all the DVDs again!).

Anyway,
% df -h /DVDs
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/RaidDisk-DVDs
1.4T 109M 1.4T 1% /DVDs
