Today I got a "credit card" from "1st national card" for "cca (catlog) shopping". Uh huh. Some googling shows this to be a scam. Very well done, but a scam; it's not a credit card but an invitation for a catlogue shopping company membership card. Googling shows this to be a very very bad company, preying on people with bad credit. Hmmm...

However, it was addressed to "Stephen Harris". All my reports say "Stephen W Harris".

Now... in the past I have had letters and demands for a "Stephen Harris" owing money on accounts going back to 1998. Since I didn't move to this country until 2001 it couldn't have been me. Every time I called them up it turns out to be another Stephen Harris with a different SSN. Also, at one point,my HSBC accounts had their address changed; HSBC claimed they received a change-of-address notification from the post office.

When I first moved here I had trouble with Verizon and the gas company... they didn't want to open an account for me; I presumed because the previous occupant hadn't paid their bills!

Now what I'm wondering is if there used to be a previous "Stephen Harris" living in this apartment who really fucked his credit rating and somehow his information has been added to my report. I'll be very pissed if that is the case, but it's the only thing I can think of. Why else would I get nasty letters, have trouble getting services, and now receive invitations from people known to prety on poor credit risks.

I could be utterly screwed in my credit because of some extremely unlikely coincidence...

Shit.

This is pissing me off and making me VERY depressed.
