Why thank you for that embarrasment
Feb. 15th, 2007 03:12 pmWas buying stuff and swiped my card and... "It's asking for extra authorisation. Do you have another card, or do you mind waiting a minute?" Hmm, why is my card being flagged? Maybe I've been spending a lot and it's tripped some internal anti-fraud system. Hmm. OK, phone them and get authorisation. So the guy phones and after a fair few minutes gets hold of a person, gives them the information and... "Sorry, it's been refused by the issuing bank. You need to contact them."
WTF? Fortunately I do have a second card for just this sort of case, so I used that.
Get back to my desk and call the card services helpline. The automated system says "Sorry, we do not recognise your account number." Whuh? After 3 attempts it finally transfers me to a person. Poor quality line and accent makes me think it was Indian outsourcing. Joy. But... "Could you call back in an hour? All our systems are down."
Hmm... "Would this account for my card being refused when I tried to buy something just now?" "Yes".
Maybe I'll call back in a couple of hours to make sure.
