One step backwards, fall over

swehSo the Windows machine that I replaced the EIDE cable with was hung solid this morning. When I switched the KVM to the Windows machine the display said "no signal". Needed a power cycle. Nothing in the event log at all.
Hmm... what to do next, I wonder. CPU fan and PSU fan is working fine. Maybe the CPU (missing two pins) has finally decided to die. I can get a 2.8Ghz P4 for not too many $71 from NewEgg (the existing CPU is a 2.66Ghz) but I'm loathe to spend the money if it's not the CPU at fault. *grump*
