I'm in the middle of negotiating for a house. I've put down $37,000 deposit and am about to arrange a mortgage.

Now, I work for company A. Company A provides outsourcing consultancy and work for company B. We've been doing this for 9 years now. Today we are told that company B wants to cancel the outsourcing deal, and insource all company A employees. OK, this is potentially good, since it means I now work for company B and their employment conditions may be better than my existing ones (bonuses and other benefits - cheap mortgages! - come to mind).

But... I'm on an L1 visa; this is a visa which means I can only work for company A. So company B now needs to raise lots of paperwork. And I can't take advantage of B's cheap mortgages because I don't yet work for B. And I'm in the middle of buying a house. And I don't want to have to leave the country and redo paperwork. And I really didn't need to have this dumped on my just now!

I know every management person in the chain wants me to keep my job, so it will be mine. But I have all this additional paperwork to do with INS and visas and crap which means I'm not feeling very secure and stable. One mis-step by incompetent HR people could cause me a lot of hassle. Gah!

In other news, I learnt yesterday that company A has been fucking me up the arse with a rod-hot poker stick with regards to my green card (ie they haven't done anything about it with INS yet!) so there will be no loss going to company B in that respect.
