Aug. 20th, 2026 08:23 pmRecent trends (especially on youtube, but also on this site) have been pushing Linux; even Linux on the desktop. It kinda makes me laugh 'cos Linux has been my primary desktop since maybe 1993.
But it also brought to mind when I bought a new Dell Dimension 4100 in the year 2000 and I converted it to dual boot. I documented the process. The TLDR is that re-installing Win98 took 14 reboots and 2-3 hours; installing Linux took 1 reboot and 20 minutes.
For prosperity, this is how a reinstall of Win98 on the 4100 would go, compared to a RedHat 6.2 (pre-RHEL) install.
