Worst Sunday ever

swehPrelude...I noticed my spam load had gone down recently. Wow, I thought, wow!
Today I noticed that a machine I share co-ownership in is down, dead, out of action. Has been since around midnight. No remote console on it, so we'll have to wait until Monday when Tori gets to work to put a console on it and looks to see why it died.
Of course that means my web site is out of action. Fortunately my email goes elsewhere and my DNS is elsewhere. But... hmm... let's just verify that. So I log into my linode (BTW, much recommended: www.linode.com) and do an nslookup. Wuh?? SERVFAIL? Wuh? Quickly check the master server, and both secondaries. They're OK. Hmm... "whois". What the flying fuck? Who the hell are these DNS entries pointing to?
It looks like the nominet TAG holder for my domain (PSInet UK) decided on May 11th to chnage the DNS delegation for my domain. Of course, it's pointing to DNS servers which aren't authorative and so my domain is dead. After 20 minutes on hold to PSInet (international call from US to England) I get the service desk who escalates the call to someone who understands the question, who finally tells me that they can't fix it until Monday when the DNS team arrive. So much for 24x7 support!
I wouldn't have picked this up if absinthe hadn't died, because I normally point to my own authorative servers, but my linode is running in non-recursive mode (to save memory) so I use the providers DNS servers.
