An equation of suffering
Aug. 29th, 2005 10:57 pmGiven an event, each person(i) will suffer pain(i,t) at time t, so a person's pain P(i) could be considered the integral over t of t=0->inf p{sub i}(t) and so on)
Given that, is it not fair to live life so that you try to minimise P(i) for each person "i", and so the measure of a life could be the way the minimise sigma{i} integral p{i}(t) for all i,t. In English, one person may be hurt a lot for a short period of time as long as overall all people's people is minimised over time.
Given that, potentially it's feasible to hurt someone a lot if, in the long run, overall pain is minimised.
All that is left is the evaluation of the pain function pain(i,t) and determination of the minimum point. That will provide guidance as to appropriate future action.
