Another step forward, two back
Oct. 9th, 2005 07:42 pmFinally got the HDs to work. There was a jumper on two undocumented pins, and since nothing else seemed to work (Maxtor's own diagnostic tools claimed the drives were of zero size - or didn't exist - and failed tests), and when I removed the jumper all of a sudden the drive appeared in the BIOS and the Maxtor tools passed the quick tests and Linux saw the full size of the drives. Whee....
And I find I have squirrels in the attic roof. My neighbour had told me that she'd seen one go in there, but searching the attic didn't find any sign. It seems they're not in the attic, but in the gap in the roof. I guess there's a gap there, anyway, 'cos when I bang hard on the rafters in the attic I can hear claws scrabbling above my head. There seems to be a very small gap on the outside of the house, near the apex, so I guess that's where they got in.
*sigh*
I guess I'll have to do some searching for a company that can deal with them!
