Mens coats

When I first came to New York I bought, at Tori's recomendation, I got a Lands End winter coat. It's pretty nice and warm but has one problem; it doesn't handle water very well (so a rain storm soaks it and the contents of the pockets get wet - eg a book gets damaged - and it's above the knee so trousers get saturated as well).

So I'm looking for a better coat. I see around town women wearing what looks like the perfect coat... (eg http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF1193 ); it's ankle length and warm and waterproof and has a good hood... but can I find an equivalent men's coat? Can I heck!

Any ideas?!
