Yay power!
Oct. 28th, 2006 11:57 amAt 8:30 power went out. Seems to have been quite a large outage. For some reason I woke up at 8:33 and noticed the alarm clock was dead. Went downstairs; UPS on the TiVo was beeping. UPS in the basement wasn't (I turned the beep off) but it was on battery. So I shut down the computers cleanly (windows and Solaris aren't monitoring the UPS so they would just be powered off) and as I was about to shutdown the linux machines the battery went to 10% and the self-shutdown sequence started. Yay.
Power came back at 9:25 so I started powering stuff up again. But for some reason the Windows machine fails. The CPU fan starts turning, but... that's it. So I dunno if the PSU is bad and not providing full voltage or something else is bad. This _is_ the machine with 2 missing CPU ground pins (an earlier accident when the CPU fan failed) so it's possible that the CPU has also decided to finally give up. *sigh*
I was thinking of buying a new computer, but not to replace the Windows machine!
