Update on credit card

swehSo I call back. This time the system recognised my card number, which is good. I get through to a person (yes, Indian outsourcing... even the wait queue music is Indian, which sounds absolutely awful over highly compressed lines!) and get told "Our records don't even show an attempt to check your card". *sigh*
To me that does sound like their system had a major outage and any clearing house attempt to contact my card provider (not exactly a small bank; 321 offices in New York State alone and is one of the biggest world wide) just failed. The vendors clearing house probably treated that as a rejection.
However, I'm due to go shopping tonight... we'll see if it's rejected then!
And a big "fuck you very much" for having the support people try to sell me ID theft protection. Wankers!
