(try this again with feeling, since the first attempt got lost...)

Around 1030 I got a call from AC E loans about a deficit payment. WTF? I don't have a load with you. No, I didn't go into a branch on October 16th and take out a loan. I don't even know who ACE are! Yes, I am Stephen Harris. Yes, I do live at "address". No, I don't have a loan. When I ask what SSN the account is in they give the last 4 digits... no, that's not me. My SSN is different.

This is the second time this has happened; when I first moved here I got letters from a collection agency about a defaulted credit card loan.. which couldn't have been me since the card was taken out before I moved to this country!

I wonder if there used to be a Stephen Harris living in this apartment who defaulted on lots of payments. It sure would explain why I had trouble getting services (eg phone) when I first moved in! Might also explain why HSBC started sending my statements (checking and credit) to a different address. Hmm...

Maybe I should report this to someone; the police? the feds? Who would care about this??!

In other news, my power workstation has decided to throw random USB errors, causing XP to spontaneously reboot and Linux to kernel crash. Whee.

Related, my other Linux desktop has decided to not recognise the wireless mouse I've plugged in. Whee...

Maybe I should go back to bed!

The mouse is working again; perhaps the wireless receiver was borked since unplugging it and plugging it in again seemed to get it working on all machines. Maybe just maybe the belkin unpowered kvm switch isn't providing enough power to drive the receiver as well. Hmmph.
