Many years ago (wow, must have been 1992 or so!) I came across a postscript document that drew business cards. Since I was learning postscript at the time I mangled it and did a series of fun cards. The finance department enjoyed it (one person had "Chief moaner!", another "Bad Poems R Us"; the guy with the petty cash tin was "Holder of the Golden Key to the petty cash!" and so on). Heh, looking at the directory I have those files in I see I made up some cards for my Dad for golf (dunno if he ever used them).
When I moved to New York I made up a card for my apartment, and a second "BDSM" card. I eventually ran out of them! When I moved to my current house I made up one sheet of cards, but the toner didn't seem to stick too well to the cards (cheap refurb cartridges!) so I wasn't very happy with them.
A few weeks ago I was at the doctors for the Green Card civil surgeon health check and I picked up one of his cards. I noticed on the back a "business cards are free at
http://www.vistaprint.com/ " line on the back. Huh, so I looked at it. 250 cards for free; just pay shipping of $5.25. The free cards are limited in design, but I found one that was OK so for a joke I got a set made up.
I also thought about getting some BDSM cards made up, but none of the preformatted designs worked for me, so I hunted around. I found
http://www.PrintsMadeEasy.com where you could design your own cards online (the editor they provide is perfectly adequate or you can upload predefined graphics). They aren't free but they do give you $15 off the first order, and 100 cards are $15 and there's no advert, so they're effectively free (plus $6.95 for shipping). So since I was feeling silly I made up some as well.
The card from PrintsMadeEasy is slightly thicker than the vistaprint card stock, but both are fine and much much better than anything I could do myself.
Effectively the normal cards have cost me 2cents each and the BDSM cards 7cents each; the "joke" cost me $13 and now I have lots of business cards :-)
